Description
So my uncle really wanted a sandcastle cake for his birthday. And I was like, OMG! there's a threadless shirt with a sandcastle on it. And, there's an epic threadless cake contest going on. How appropriate.
I made the cakes with my friend Nina, who had never made a cake from scratch before in her entire life. The ball and the bucket and the castle's turrets are chocolate cake from Nina's premiere baking effort, and the square parts of the castle are yellow cake by me.
The next night, my sister and I stayed up all night making butter icing and fondant and delicious brown-sugar cinnamon mixture to cover the cakes in. At about midnight we decided to skip making the people accurate and made them out of white fondant balls with plastic toothpick swords instead. (We were tired, okay? I'm sorry...)
There was a huge family get-together for my uncle's birthday, and we only managed to eat one of the cakes. I, however, ended up with some really tasty breakfast food for the rest of the week! :P
