My Playtree cake by Jamie Masterson

Description

This was my Fiance's and my first artistic cake decorating attempt. We had a blast expirementing with royal icing and fondant, all the things we see on Foodnetwork's Cake Challenges. Unfortunatly everything that makes the cake look nice... well, doesn't taste very nice. We used: two batches of cake, fondant, royal icing, regular frosting, a lot of food coloring, and everything was edible! The tree portion is small circle layers of cake(about 5 high) while the base is two full 9 inch circle cake layers. Much of the cake(branches, roots, body of the little guy, and records) are molded out of fondant. The ladder, clouds and thinner parts of the guy are royal icing piped onto wax paper, left to dry stiffly. The darker blue details and records in the tree are all icing thinned out and applied with a brush. It has an estimated time of 8 hours of labor and love from two art teachers. Yay cake!
