Chinese Peaches cake by Sarah Knoke

Description

I chose Chinese Peaches, becuase it is one of my favorite t-shirts to wear, and well I thought it would be fun! I have never made shaped or fancy cakes before, and I have never used fondant and I like the idea of a challenge. And it was.

I made everything from scratch after I gave my kitchen a good scrub down, just to make it a mess again. The cake is a vanilla pound cake, and I made a buttercream fondant icing. I also used a plain vanilla icing for the tree and leaves.

It turns out I am not so good at carving cakes. So I fell back to a cookie cutter, shaped like a pumpkin. I used yellow and red food coloring with water to paint the fondant over the peaches, and I molded my little ladies out of the fondant. I tried to keep the doughy, squishy look without making them look like blobs. I think they're cute.

All in all I am happy with how they turned out, since this is my first attempt at creating anything like this. Not to mention, it's super tasty!
