This is my first threadcakes entry.
This is my first threadcakes entry submitted at the last minute.
I'm a HUGE procrastinator.
How long did the process take you ask? Well I think I found out about the contest via Twitter at the end of June and started tirelessly looking at all the Threadless tshirts. After I found "THE" tshirt --> Case Study #48: Bunny Family Anomalies, I started brainstorming about 2d vs 3d. After careful deliberation I decided on 3d. Everything's better in 3d, no? But I don't think I did anything until a month later when I cut out fondant bunny ears. They sat on my table for a week, then I went on vacation for a week before I did anything else. What can I say? I'm a slowww creative genius. *wink*
So to go back to the original question. Technically it's taken me, from conception to finish, 5 weeks but if we're just talking actual "caking" then I'll go with < 2 days.
I used Martha Stewart's buttermilk cupcake recipe (YUM!) and Wilton Buttercream. I made my own marshmallow fondant (MMF) but I wussed out on the black fondant. Black and red fondant dye jobs are not my friend. The black fondant is Satin brand.
The eyes were made using the small end of a Wilton #12 tip and the noses were made using a triangle cookie cutter.
> Devil Wears Frosting Bunny: the devil horns were formed inside a Wilton #1 piping tip, the eyebrows were triangles cutters, goatee was free hand diamond shape > Hello Kitty Bunny: bow was made with 2 small triangles and circle > Harry Potter Bunny: the lightning bolt was freehand > Gangbanger Bunny: the scar was freehand > Top Hat Bunny: the top hat was made with a semicircle and black fondant rolled into a tube and cut to size with a rectangle of white fondant > Tiger Bunny: stripes were freehand > Friday the 13th Jason Bunny: the small dots on the mask were small end of Wilton #5 piping tip, the rest was freehand > Flower Power Bunny: flower cookie cutter > Captain Jack Sparrow Bunny: patch was 3/4 of a circle and thin cut of fondant for string > Pulp Fiction John T Sideburns Bunny: sideburns were freehand > Jem Rockstar Bunny: mini star cookie cutter
Even though I had grandiose plans to make all 58 bunnies, alas the powder sugar gods were against me and I ran out of frosting after 11 cupcakes. Now I know what you're thinking? Why didn't you go out and buy more? Remember I said I'm a procrastinator right? Well I forgot to mention that I'm kinda sorta... lazy too. HA HA!
Hope you enjoy my cupcakes!

PS- If Andy Pitts (the tshirt designer) happens to see my entry, I’d LOVE LOVE LOVE a hoodie please! I’m not a big tshirt person but hoodies are a TOTALLY different story! Preferable L so that the “girls” will be comfortable. Kthanxbye.
