Description
Woolly Woolly, what so disgruntled you? Is it the economy? Health care? The end of the Pleistocene era? My bet is on the blue hat. I made Woolly out of vanilla pound cake with vanilla icing. Pretty exciting, huh? Yeah, well, tell it to the non-existent part of me that understand cake baking. I spent a morning constructing and then carving seven nine-by-thirteen pans of cake, filled with butter cream icing (vanilla... surprise!) The purple fur is made of individually cut and painted locks of gum paste. I lost count of them at about five hundred. The hat and tusks are also made of gum paste, with some tinfoil in the tusks to help them stick in the cake and to make them lighter. I worked on this cake for three days, mainly cutting out and painting those darn little bits of hair.
This cake was far too mammoth (Ha! Get it?) for me, my mother and my dog to finish, so, like the adorable harbinger of joy and diabetes that I am, I threw various body parts into casserole dishes and delivered them to my friends. I did eat a slice. It was obscenely sweet, perhaps to offset Woolly's sour scowl.
This cake was originally meant to be a long-overdue birthday cake, but it didn't work out. Sorry, Scotty. I'll make you a mystical rainbow leopard for your next birthday.
Thanks Threadless!
