Camouflage cake by Kristen Perez

Description

I love cute small things. I like when big things have teeny wings, so it wasn't hard to choose "Camouflage."

I began with a wonderful, always there in a pinch boxed cake mix...chocolate, of course, and baked two 8 inch rounds. The next day I filled it with vanilla buttercream and carved it into the bears body trying my best to get that oh so subtle slope between his (or her, but I don't think it's a her because there are no eyelashes or a bow) head and his body, then gave it a crumb coat and let it sit in the refrigerator.
The next day I made the bee (rolled a ball of fondant for the body and cut out strips of black for the stripes) and sign(flat pieces cut out and layered on top of each other using water) out of fondant I colored with coloring gel and let those dry out on a cookie sheet.
I covered the bear's body and bee's head by coloring the fondant with brown and black gel paste. Finally, after covering the bear, I put all the pieces in place, added the feet and tail to the bear and stood the honey sign with toothpicks.

All in all I think it took me three hours over several days, working on it here and there, little by little. It's so cute with the little wings and thought bubble! Sadly, I had to cut into it, but lucky for me chocolate is a cure all and it was delicious!
