Hedgehog Goes Rainbow

Hedgehog of many colors! I couldn't imagine a cuter subject for my first attempt at a carved cake! Since I knew I'd be spending a lot of time on decorating, and keeping in mind that I have a ten week old baby, I decided to take the easy route on the cake and went with Pillsbury "Funfetti" Mix. The buttercream and fondant are from scratch though. The most time consuming part of this were the colorful spikes. Not only did they take awhile to color and form them, they took forever to dry enough to stand up. This was a lot of fun even though it took me several days to complete. I had to work around lots of diaper changes, feedings, and play time. It may be the happiest cake I've ever made!
