Description
when I told my mom about this contest, she told me "you'll be awful at it"
so I went for it anyway. this is the first time I've made a cake and icing from scratch, the first time handling fondant and decorating a cake!
the cake, not the best cake in the world, but the fondant wasn't that hard to use. I colored three sections (of pre-made, I'm not that crazy to make it yet) of fondant, and used a freehanded stencil and cut it out with a sharp scalpel. the large sections of orange were inlayed into the black sections, and the dots and veins were piped icing.
overall, I spent about two days on it, one day making icing and the cake, the next putting on the fondant and designs.
not bad for a big cakeful of firsts!
