Doc Franklin s Miracle Tonic cake by Neli Josefsen

Description

Well, here is the hardest part: to explain what I have actually done...and how. This will probably be the shortest comment of all, but I will try as good as I can. Be kind with me, please!! :/

I had absolutely no intention of participating whatsoever. I like some very different style of cakes and to begin with I just opened the side and then went away; oh no, it was not the thing for me.
Then...I opened it again and started studying the pictures - again. Suprisingly even for me, I started to like them (kind of).
By the third coming into the site I was already trying to pick a design for interpretation...

Of course, I chose some, proud of myself and completely happy with my little collection...until I went to look at the other entires. Many of my dear choices was already there - standing there done, some more than once. My complete happiness almost turn into tears ;)), but oh no, I just put myself together again and - back in the race (as they say in a certain song).

All the job took me about a week, some hours a day, with at least one day with no working at all, while waiting for the different pieces to get dry. It is always difficult to make two figures in contact with each other and when they are supposed to be all dry, then it is really a challenge. In my case the second figure was the banjo and it was not an easy ..... Though, the instrument itself was a really pleasant thing to do.
So was the big drum too. But I had some problems with it, not technical, really; just as an ex-drummer myself, I felt like changing some elements , which was kind of...strange to me. But I did not, I managed that :D

The cake is something they call "The best in the world" here, in the country where I live. And you can easily believe they have right if you only tasted the cake. The layers are a bit unusual, baked of two different types of "dough", with the meringue on the top. Filled with whipped cream and steamed/stewed apples. Frosted with butter (mixed with sugar) and covered with home-made fondant. No pre-fabricated ingredients, everything is edible, except for the background which is painted cardboard.

And even though I started so full of suspicion, I ended up with a cake that I did enjoy making.
Thank you for viewing!
