Hello I'm Erin, I am 15 years old and this is my first ever entry to threadcakes. I chose this design because I loved the gradation of the colors and because It looks awesome! the cake is a yellow cake baked in a rectangular pan and frosted with homemade butter-cream. After covering the cake with plain white fondant I started the long process of cutting each and every element out of multi-colored fondant.
I began by making three different colors of fondant out of food coloring: red ,orange, and yellow. Then, I took bits of two of these at a time and combined them to get 5 colors. I then rolled these color out together to get one solid sheet of blending colors. At first I was going to trace and cut out the pieces, but after cutting out a few pieces like this I realized that it really wasn't going to work. So I decided to just make each part by hand. Using water as glue I carefully stuck each piece in place. It took me over the course of 3 days to complete but it was a lot of fun (and it tasted great too) so I hope you like it!
