Description
My “Take me to Tokyo” Treadcake
I like to bake, a lot, so my cake is completely from scratch. Ultimately since there isn’t much color on the threadshirt, I didn’t use much color on the cake, but I think it turned out alright.
The cake is a basic yellow cake, the frosting a butter cream, and the godzilla and cars are made with fondant.
First I mixed the cake up and got it in the oven. While it was baking, I made the fondant. About the time I was done with the fondant, the cake came out of the oven and into the fridge to cool. Next came the frosting, which actually turned out to be one of the better texture of frosting I’ve done. While the cake was cooling, I divided up the fondant, and died the godzilla portion with quite a bit of green, with a touch of blue and black. Once I got a color I liked, I began shaping godzilla’s body. His arms and legs were simple little rolled balls and pressed gently into the body and let them harden together. The tail was set to the side so it could harden separately, along with the back spikes. I shaped some of the extra fondant into little car-like shapes, and a square shape for godzilla’s sign, and set all the fondant aside to set. Once the cake was cooled I put the frosting on, and let it set for a while for the frosting to harden slightly. Once the frosting was fairly well set, I used a fine paint brush with black food coloring and drew the road on the cake. I used a slightly finer brush for drawing godzilla’s face, sign, and the windows and tires on the cars. After the painting was completed, I put godzilla’s sign on, lightly pushing it into his “hands” to hold it on. Next everything went on the cake, took a couple pics, and ate! Total spent about two hours putting the cake together, but my son, boyfriend and I enjoyed it...until the heart burn set in on my boyfriend!
