Description
I love to make cakes. Usually 2D designs. I came to the decision that I hate making 3D designs with passion after a rubber ducky went bad and I whipped cherry filled chocolate cake at my table and told the people at my house I didn't want to see it when I got back.
Truly though, I just started baking cakes that are more fun that your traditional square cake with buttercream frosting less than a year ago. I discovered fondant a little way down the line and the rest is history.
So here I sit a few weeks ago pouring through my bookmarks and someone had a link to Threadcakes. I got excited. A fun little challenge.
I picked out the "Gingerbread Nightmares" likely because I have a twisted sense of humor and set to work.
The cake is magnolia vanilla made from scratch. The cake is the simple part. Then I whipped up a big batch of marshmallow fondant and let it stiffen while I covered the rounds in buttercream.
Light brown fondant. "Gingerbread" fondant (had to get some gingerbread cookies out of the freezer for inspiration) and I was on my way.
My friend was over with her baby for the process so I was extremely distracted but we had fun. 11:30 at night and it's my neighbor's birthday. I finish the cake, take some (albeit not great quality) pictures and here we are.
It's simple but I hope you enjoy it :)
