Many, many thanks to my friends Victoria, Ryan, Evan, Chris, and Willie for being part of this great cake making experience. :-)
And thanks to Phillip for creating such an awesome design! You're kind of really amazing.
We baked a 9x11 sheet (yellow) cake, cut it in half, stacked it, and carved out the giant slice of cake. Chocolate frosting was used accordingly. After freezing the cake, the carving began- with an exacto knife and toothpicks. We sort of eyeballed where the letters should be...y'know, because we're rebels like that. I used a brush to paint on a mix of black and brown frosting for the letter "A" and some dripping parts on the word "CAKE". The cherry was made of red fondant (made from scratch, which we also used on our other cake) with a stem made of twizzler. The process took a few days, since it had to be frozen to make carving easier.
This was a huge accomplishment for all of us novice cake...makers? :-) Thanks!
