Description
This cake is the love child from two things I love: Making cakes and Threadless. I didn't realize until after I started that there were more than 50 individual critters on this cake, the number of eyes there are, and the detail involved. I loved this design nevertheless. I love the whimsical nature, the monsters, and the cute style. Although I was a little ambitious in my attention to detail, I am proud of entering this cake into the Threadcakes Contest.
This cake took 7 days to make. Each primary critter (there are over 45 of them) took easily an hour or more to make. Each day I made between 5 and 10 critters sitting at my kitchen counter. There was a lot of detail to each one, and I took the time to inspect every dot, curve, bump, and dimple. My initial cake sagged, so a minor set-back as I had to redo the baking. Another setback was the actual construction of the cake. It is glued together using pieces of fondant. It was difficult to get each piece on in the right configuration. In the end, I lost a few ears, bumps, and digits.
As for taste, I'm not sure. I'll ask my friends when they eat it. I don't eat cake! Thank you Threadcakes for this amazing chance to showcase my work. It was worth it in the end.
