Furious Fowl cake by Kelli Watkins

Description

I have to admit that I didn't know this was an Angry Birds themed design when I first saw it. I just like it and thought it would make a great cake! I started with the jewels for the crown a couple of weeks before I made the actual cake. They are made out of isomalt using a jewel mold. I started on the crown and ears about a week later so they would have time to dry as they are made of a fondant/gumpaste mixture. Then cake weekend arrived! My sister and I set to work baking and getting the board/platter going while the cakes were in the oven. The platter is just a cake drum covered in fondant and airbrushed with a silver sheen. Once the cakes were baked and cooled, we stacked them and started the carving process. After getting a basic shape for the pig's head, we covered it with buttercream and then fondant. The small pig's head, apples and birds were all shaped out of rice cereal treats and covered with fondant. Before airbrushing the green color, we added details (warts, eyelids, etc.) to the pigs. The crown was airbrushed with a gold sheen and the isomalt jewels were attached with piping gel. The leaves and slingshot were made of fondant and textured. The birds' feathers were textured and petal/luster dust was used to help add details. Doesn't sound too complicate but it took us two full days to finish. And of course, it was yummy!!!!
