L-L-lumberjack cake by Jennifer Racine

Description

L-L-lumberjack is right! I had a lot of fun making this cake, with one exception: the tiny lumberjack. He turned out to be quite a challenge. When I chose this design, my sons wanted to know why those trees were so scared of that lumberjack. By the end of this process, I think everyone in the house was scared of that lumberjack . . . :)

The cake has a 12 inch round white cake base covered with butter cream and green fondant. I used the Duff Goldman butter cream and white fondant, colored with Wilton icing colors. Some of the trees are carved cake covered with fondant, and some of them are sugar cones filled with Rice Krispie treats. All of the trees have pretzel rod trunks. The trees are decorated with fondant. The lumberjack had many iterations, but the final version is a 50/50 fondant-gumpaste mixture with a toothpick skeleton.

The whole process took about a week, as I only spent a short time each day on it. If I had no job or kids, it could have been done in a day or two. My sons were very happy they could finally eat the cake, especially the trees!
