The Emperor cake by Jennifer Racine

Description

Hi there! We have Star Wars all day all the time at our house, so we couldn't resist The Emperor in cake. I mean really, who could resist the opportunity to make a fondant Death Star window? My young Jedi sons also thought it was hilarious - an emperor PENGUIN instead of the emperor?!?

Project The Emperor in cake started with a 9x13 cake, baked (along with a couple of other cakes shown in the photos) from a standard pound cake recipe for the base. It's covered in my favorite local butter cream and black fondant.

The Death Star window is a circle of black fondant. I used various fondant tools to mark the design, and then used a paint brush and silver pearl dust (edible) to accent the design and some stars and far away planets. The fondant circle is supported on the cake with a cardboard cake tier circle.

The emperor has a white gum paste body and a black fondant head, beak and robe. It also has silver pearl dust accents, and some orange pearl dust and fondant on the eye and beak. The emperor is supported on the cake with a single cake pop stick. I also used a toothpick to support and help shape the beak.

My sons happily devoured the first pieces of cake. As of this writing, the emperor still stands, but surely he won't last long. Beware the danger of the dark side of the Force!
