Long Journey cake by Midori Sickel

Description

Yap! Long Journey is my story and after browsing many designs, I decided to pick this one because I love the color of blue and swirls; and the design's name is Long Journey which is the story of my life. Aren't we all having a long journey?

This cake took about 1.5 days. I baked a 8-inch white cake from a scratch, then made one batch of Swiss Merengue Buttercream with white chocolate and another batch of same buttercream base with dark chocolate. (Yummy!!) Waves were made by (1) cooking egg whites and sugar in a mixing bowl over hot water, (2) piped waves on baking sheets, (3) baked in the oven for over 1 hour, this process made the piped merengue crunchy. I layered the cake to make a slope and covered with marshmallow fondant. The sail boat was made with marshmallow fondant with Gum-tex and I colored the boat. Everything is edible except the masts which contained wires. After assembling everything, the cake was finally done. I was the first one to taste the cake and it was d.e.l.i.c.i.o.u.s!

With the Merengue Buttercream and Merengue Waves, I had to whisk the egg whites over the boiling water. I'm very short, so I had to stay on my tip-toe and whisking the egg whites for about 5 minutes each time, this was workout for my right wing (yes, the thingy under the arm that flip- flops) and calf muscle.

Thanks for looking.
