Description
I chose this design for my final threadcakes entry as I thought it would suit being airbrushed. I began airbrushing 3 years ago but only recently started to airbrush on cakes. This cake is the 2nd I've airbrushed detail onto so far so I am still getting used to how the food colours work on the icing. This cake was vanilla with vanilla buttercream. I began by cutting the cake into a square and then used the leftover cake to build up the bisons head from the surface slightly. This was then covered in buttercream and then white sugar paste. I made the feathers out of sugar paste, once they had hardened they were very delicate and i had problems with them cracking when I came to put them on the cake at the end. I used brown, black and red airbrush food colours. I gradually built up the colours in layers on the cake and the feathers until i was satisfied with the level of detail. I then placed the feathers onto the cake and added the rope detail around the horns.
