Description
When I was looking through the available designs, Iconoclast really jumped out as a design that would translate perfectly to cupcakes. It was the perfect design for my first entry.
I started by baking my cupcakes, which were white cake, right out of a box. At the same time I baked the cake for my other entry. I also made my fondant, which is a variation of Toba Garett's recipe. I decided to make mine almond flavored.
The next day, I started by crumb coating the cupcakes with a canned lemon icing. I also colored my fondant blue, for the base color. I was able to cover about half the cupcakes with fondant before my aunt had to take over the kitchen.
The next day I covered the remaining cupcakes. I then realzied that my initial plan to cut each icon out of fondant was going to be too complicated, and I wouldn't be able to do the fine details. I then decided to do those designs using royal icing instead. So I had to quickly whip up a batch of royal icing.
While that was whipping, I printed out the design, and cut each icon out. I poked each design into the top of the cupcakes using a pin, then piped over them with the royal icing.
There were 24 cupcakes total, which made their way over to my work. My hungry coworkers devoured the cupcakes before I could get any photos.
