Listening to My Song cake by Katie Johnson

Description

The cake: Sunday Night Cake from Baked Explorations
(And don't worry, it was also appropriately baked on a Sunday night!)
The filling: Peach Preserves and Buttercream
The frosting: Vanilla Buttercream
Fondant covered in white, details in black/red
Piped edges in red buttercream

I always enjoy an excuse to make a cake. And I had been dying to try Matt and Renato's "Sunday Night Cake" from their "Baked Explorations" cookbook. Luckily, it was a Sunday night... so I got to baking. The next morning I made my frosting base (the buttercream) while the peaches simmered into preserves on the stovetop. Once the peaches cooled, I mixed them with some of the buttercream to make the filling. I leveled each cake layer, added the filling layer, stacked the cake layers, and let them sit in the fridge. After the cake sat in the fridge for a spell, I took it out for the crumb coat. Then I got to making the fondant figures - the bird and the "musical note" red headphones. After working and dying my fondant, I cut out the figures and set them out to dry a bit. Then I dyed my remaining frosting to pipe the red boarder, and added the fondant figures - and voila! Listening to my song was born!

And tasted delish mind you - why don't you come over for a slice?
