Description
As this was my first ever Threadcakes entry I played it very safe and picked possibly the simplest design to replicate - clearly I wasn't doing this to win!
This cake gave me the opportunity to try a couple of new things. It was the first time I'd tried to make black fondant from scratch, and I managed to do it without using too much black colouring by adding dark chocolate melts to the marshmallows before mixing in the icing sugar. I couldn't get over just how black it turned out. Win.
I also tried a new pound cake recipe - Elvis's favourite (apparently). I'm not convinced though as the cake was ridiculously dense and a bit dry. Perfect for carving though.
All in all the cake took around 5-6 hours. A week or so before the bake I made the fondant, then a couple of days before I made the shark fondant face which was put in the freezer until it was time to decorate the cake.
I was pretty happy with how it turned out. As the husband said, "At least it's not a Cake Wreck!"
