Description
I love cakes with hidden designs inside them, and I like sculpting with fondant. Whether checkerboard, stripe, or rainbow insides, I really enjoy making cutaway cakes. I also like creating animals out of fondant.
This cake took two days to make. I made the Tyrannosaurus first in several pieces, then stuck them all together and painted the fondant. It is a hollow dinosaur, and the next time I make a fondant/gum paste creature like this one, I will make a solid one instead. Hollow fondant is not very sturdy! The cake is made of four layers of rainbow cake stacked on top of each other. The rainbow layers were created by putting several shades of food colored-batter in the same pan.
I'd like to work on 3D sculpture some more, and make more layer cakes in the future. I can't wait for next year's contest!
