Description
So this design had Beaker. Enough said.
I used circular cutters of different sizes to cut out cake from 8 inch yellow cake rounds. Then I stacked and filled them with vanilla buttercream. I then put the cake in the fridge to chill and set up, upon which I removed it from the fridge and carved it up into the "Beaker" shape. Then I crumb coated it and let it chill again. Finish coating it was a bit interesting, in the end I coated it with buttercream, chilled it, and smoothed it with a Viva paper towel.
After it was smooth I covered the cake in a pink fondant base coat. From there, I added the shirt (drew on the stripes with an edible food marker), then the tie, the coat, the nose, the mouth, the hair, the eyes, the bubbles (orange fondant on wires I painted black), and then painted on the white highlights and black outlines with food coloring and vodka.
The only support structure in this cake is a wooden dowel rod straight down the center to keep it from toppling.
Overall, I think he took me about 3 hours and I think he turned out great :)
