Description
This was my third attempt at a threadcakes entry. I started off a little differently this time, actually baking a cake from scratch. My previous cakes had been from mixes...which is fine, I think, except for storage issues. I found that the boxed cakes (especially the spice cake I used in my last entry) tend to get mushy if left at room temperature for too long.
So, I used a basic poundcake recipe. Very rich, but also very dense, which is what I was going for. I iced the cake thinly with some buttercream icing and laid the basic fondant foundation. I then set to work on the piggies.
I had a little trouble with the shading, but eventually found a nice pinky peach to use. The rest of it was pretty much sculpting, which I did while watching crime shows and Dr. G (I figured a crime/murder scenario would get me in the mood a bit!)
My regret is that I got a bit carried away while sculpting and didn't get more photos of the progress of the piggies...before I knew it, they were done and I hadn't taken much! But they are solid fondant, with a small amount of painted accent for the ears and noses.
All in all, another great cake-making experience....
