Description
This was my fourth and final entry into Threadcakes...and I have to say, although my entries are definitely not professionally done, I had a great time with design, baking and decorating these cakes.
This last one was really sort of an afterthought. I wasn't sure if I could pull off some of the other designs..and after attempting the rock em sock em robots I realized I was a little out of my league! I thought about this design and kept going back to the concept of making it into a 3-D alarm clock...and it was much easier than I thought it would be.
I started with a spice cake mix, baked and trimmed a bit, and added a small amount of rice krispie treat to the back just as a support...then frosted with cream cheese frosting. I used fondant, tinted grey and brushed with edible shimmer dust to make it appear a bit more metallic (or at least plastic!) I added a black fondant clock face, some black fondant snooze, alarm and time set buttons, and did the lettering with red icing.
All in all, the project took about 4 hours to complete. Not bad for a Sunday evening. :)
