Description
This is my first entry of Threadcakes 2010. I decided to start with my favorite tee, New Hairstyle. While I am more of a Trekkie, this shirt was too cute to not have.
I like to consider myself a folk cake artist because I am self taught and my style is a mixture of methods I've picked up from here and there. I'm not a fan of fondant and I prefer to use buttercreams and icings as my mediums. Decorating to me is like painting and icing are my "oils".
I started of by mixing the batter and greasing the pan. Next, the cake went into the oven. This all took about 45 - 50 minutes total. Then after letting the cake cool for 30 minutes, I let it sit for 30 mintues more in the freezer. I find it easier to work on a cake that's a little stiff. Less crumbs. While that was going on, I prepared my colors for decorating. After the colors had a chance to cool, I removed the cake from the freezer and began to decorate. First I drew the characters onto the cake and then filled them in. This part of the cake probably took about and hour to an hour and a half to complete, stopping to let the icings cool down (our house is a bit hot).
And there you go!
