Zombies cake by Ann Bailey

Description

I guess I would have to say that Halloween is my favorite time of year. I enjoy it now as much as when I was a kid so it was just befitting that I create a zombie cake that would depict gruesomeness. I started with the hands which were made out of gumpaste. I formed each one, gauged open the skin to add the blood and puss (oh my gosh, that's sick)....then colored them a zombie gray. I formed the fingers over anything I had in my kitchen so that I could achieve a grabbing effect.

The chocolate pound cake was next. I covered it with a chocolate and coffee ganache, then made my own fondant, covered the cake and painted it black.

I also cut the window boards from gumpaste and adhered them to the cake base with lemon juice.

The wooden slats across the window was made from white and brown fondant rolled into ropes then rolled out and cut.

The cake was one of the best pound cakes I've made in a long time. My hubby ate most of it.
