Cutout Ralph cake by Amber Wills

Description

This is my second entry this year. As soon as I saw Ralph and his 3d potential I knew I wanted to attempt this. I started by baking two 6" red velvet and two 6" chocolate cakes, triple berry jam for the oozy layers and then made chocolate ganache. I then built his support using a half inch pipe, two flanges and mounted that with four screws onto the base. I cut cake board and used floral wire to attach it to the top flange to support his head. With a small hole drilled through the plastic pipe thick floral wire was used to make his arm structure and I weaved smaller floral wire onto that after his body was carved and decorated to construct his ribs. Over 20 hours of baking, carving, fondant details, modeling chocolate sculpting, texturizing and hand painting Ralph was complete and for the first time ever I was sad to cut my birthday cake. Although, he was scrumdillyicious.
