Dead Sucker cake by Mary Burroughs

Description

My boyfriend is a big gaming fan and I wanted to make a design based on one of his favorite games “Bio Shock.” When looking through the designs, I came across “Dead Sucker” and just had to make it. I wanted to challenge myself, so I decided to make this into a 3-D cake. This cake acted as my birthday cake and also as a Halloween cake.

To begin, I started by blowing up the design to the size I wanted the cake. I had to make this 18inches tall because of the thinness of the girl in the design. After blowing up the design, I made my stand out of ½ inch mdf board, 3/8 inch carriage bolts, 3/8 inch wooden dowel, and 12 gauge wire. I cut out the pieces and glued them together. After my stand was assembled, I baked my cakes and made my frosting. After the cakes cooled, I cut out pieces of cake with a stencil and filled my stand. I let the frosting set up in the fridge before I carved out the cake. I also made rice krispie treats for the heads because the size of the heads were too small for cake.

After the cake was carved, and heads in place, I crumb coated the cake with thin buttercream frosting. I let the crumb coat set up in the fridge and in the mean time I made the eyes and noses. After the cake was set up, I added the eyes and nose to the heads and added details to the faces with modeling chocolate and buttercream. After I was happy with the details, I covered the heads in fondant. I then added the hair to the girl. Next I covered the bodies in fondant and scored detail lines.

After the bodies were covered in fondant, I added modeling chocolate to the arms and legs and added the sleeves to the arms. Next I made the pants for the body in the back and made the shoes. Then I made the teddy bear and needle gun out of modeling chocolate. I did have to use internal support for the needle gun due to the thinness of the gun and the fact it had to be suspended from the girl’s hand. I finished off the cake with some black food coloring highlights.

I really had fun making this cake and it really challenged my decorating skills. It was quite a tasty chocolate cake too! Hope you enjoy!
