Description
This was the most quick'n'dirty Threadless entry I've ever completed. I realized on Saturday that I had somehow missed the entire contest window, but didn't want another year to pass without entering. The cake is a basic yellow cake - dense enough to carve but still quite tasty. The frosting is simple buttercream. Instead of hoping I could get a vague tombstone shape with just rounds, I dug out my ancient square pan and used that topped with a third of a regular round. The butterflies were sort of a failed experiment in that they didn't set up enough to float above the cake on floral wire, but they were still edible (if you were really hoping for a cavity): they're royal icing with a buttercream outline.
