We Were Tomatoes

Description
Unfortunately this cake had to have a couple of steps repeated! First, a problem with my stove ended up shooting my temperatures up to 500 degrees during the first batch of cakes that I made so those got a little burnt. Then one of my puppies decided he wanted a taste and attacked my ketchup bottle it was definitely a test of my patience lol!!
First, I used a banana cake for the base. My sister did the "topsy turvy" carving for me and then I butter creamed and used marshmallow fondant on it that I colored to try to match the pattern as closely as possible. The topsy turvy didn't turn out quite like we expected, but seems to play into the idea that the tomatoes are running on a hilly landscape.
For the tomatoes and ketchup bottle I used red velvet cake (the first ketchup bottle was made of spice cake). I used 3 regular sized cupcakes stacked with butter cream and fondant to create the ketchup bottle. I used fondant to make his mouth and mallet and then hand painted the other details with food coloring. For the tomatoes I used miniature cupcakes, royal icing and fondant. I used fondant to create their leaves and mouths and then hand painted the details with food coloring. I attached the tomatoes to the cake with royal icing and had to use a dowel and royal icing to keep the ketchup bottle in place.
And it was all very yummy when I finally cut into it and had a bite. The kids loved the little tomatoes.
In all, the whole process took about 10 hours total. Would have been less if it had gone more smooth lol!!
Thanks for looking at my cake!!!!
