Piggy Bank Heist cake by Brandy Wilson

Description

This cake was really fun to create. I started by making three pound cakes, then putting them in the fridge overnight so they would be easy to carve. It was my first time carving a cake so when I started this morning, I stood over the first pound cake for a long time before I finally stuck a knife in it...thankfully it was really, really easy and I was very happy with the shape that I got out of all three.

Putting the buttercream was actually the hardest part of the process because the piggy banks were so rounded that they wanted to slide around me very easily and there wasn't really anywhere I could hold onto them. Putting the fondant on was extremely easy and went very smoothly.

I then colored some fondant black and grey and designed the knives, piggy disguises and coins. I put the knives in the fridge to help harden them so they would hold their shape when I attached them to the piggy robbers. I also used the same process to create the tails and ears out of the same pink fondant I covered the pigs with. I didn't use any royal frosting to attach anything, just a paintbrush with water. I ended up using toothpicks to help support the tails and knives as their weight was just to much.

My children definitely thought the whole process was really neat and think it's even more fun to eat the pigs!
