Freddie Mercury cake by Jean Schapowal

Description

Being the huge Queen fan that I am this choice was a no brainer for me!!! First I covered 2 pieces of foam core that would be the base and backdrop with fondant. I let that set for a bit. I cut out several squares of dk grey fondant for the periodic table backdrop and starting to set up the yellow gum paste that would be Freddies jacket. Once all the fondant was hard I put together the periodic table and iced all the lettering. I then built the structure that would hold the cake out of foam core and PVC with a dowel that would support the outstretched arm. I then baked a 12 x 12 square yellow cake. Once cooled I cut and shaped to fit into the structure and then crumb coated. Then I started covering with the bluish green and white fondant. Once the figure was covered I then attached the backdrop using dowels attached to the back that anchored into the base of the board.
Then I started working on freebies jacket and adding all the details and then the arms and fondant hands. Next was his microphone and then his sneakers and pants. His mustache and teeth were fondant and the I hand painted the rest of the facial details. Lastly I added the shadowing. Thanks for looking and enjoy!!
