Creature Cocktail cake by Jean Schapowal

Description

So glad Threadcakes came back this year and I couldn't wait to try out another cool design!! I chose Creature Cocktail because the first thing that attracted me were the colors; simple basic cartoony which is kinda like my style and I love the old classic horror films including creature from the black lagoon!
I baked 2 10" square and 2 8" round yellow cakes for the body. I stacked, filled and then carved. The head was rice cereal treats covered with melted candy melts. The extra, carved off pieces of cake were mixed with frosting and molded for the arms. I then let it chill for a bit in the fridge.
I covered an 18 x 18 round drum with orange fondant and then I mixed green, orange and red modeling chocolate.
I then made the creatures little cocktail/human glass. I made a simple structure with a dowel and some floral wire and covered with modeling chocolate and fondant.I then made the lime, umbrella and straw out of modeling chocolate. I then let him harden for a day.
I covered with whole cake and Rice cereal treat head with a thick buttercream and then started forming and modeling some of the features. I then decorated with the modeling chocolate. his bathing suit top was made of fondant.
once the arms were completed I could then add the cocktail glass.
I molded some squiggly green pieces and let harden for the head and then finished up with the decorating. The white striping was done with melted cocoa butter paint.
The background was a piece of orange mat board with a piece of pastel paper for the sun!
And then we ate him!!!!
