Witching Hour

Ever since this contest started I've begun compulsively evaluating all the new t-shirt designs in terms of their feasibility for cake. When I saw this one my first thought was "impossible." Therefore I decided to try it.

The cake is a spice cake, baked in an 8 inch loaf pan and carved. The frosting is painted fondant. The smoky swirl is tinted sugar. The figures in the smoke are more fondant.

I spread the work over a week, so I don't know how long it took, but if I'd done it in one day I'm sure it would have kept me up past midnight.
