Fail cake by Chantal Merrill

Description

This is my fifth entry for this year's Threadcakes. I love this design, and if it's ever reprinted in my size I'm going to snag it. The cake is a white cake with vanilla frosting. I baked three boxes of cake mix to make this cake. The bottom layer is three sheets of cake (9 inch rounds), stacked and filled with icing, then covered in a green fondant that took a very long time to color. The top layer wasn't so simple. I don't own any smaller pans than the 9 inch, so I stacked two sheets of 9 inch rounds and eyeballed cutting them into an approximately 6 inch round cake..I need to buy pans, hehe. I had to ice and freeze the top layer for about 20 minutes before I could do anything with it, since I'd cut away all the edge pieces and it was all loose crumbs on the outside.

The three bottom cows are also fondant, cut out and "painted" with food coloring to match the original design. The trees were also cut out fondant that I had tinted separately, then painted to look like limbs.

I used a liquid fondant icing to put "Stars" all over the top layer to show that the cow was supposed to be in midair. The stars are too cute in the picture to leave out. The moon is made of gumpaste, tinted yellow and left to dry overnight. The cow on top is fondant, also left to dry and then "painted" to match his buddies on the bottom of the cake.
